AFS Support Letter
Make a World of a DifferencePatrice Mayo is a high school student from Las Vegas, Nevada who needs your financial support to realize her dream as an AFS student in the Argentina Summer Language Study Program. Please read about her and consider making a donation to her cause.
“I Have The Travel Bug.”

Traveling and experiencing the world has also been a fascination for Patrice. Watching the Travel Channel has only exemplified her fascination and like the hosts of the Travel Channel, she has caught the travel bug. However this traveling and cultural interest, which only grew as her life progressed, started way back to Patrice’s childhood days in the Philippines.
Patrice Mayo – A Junior in Valley High School, Las Vegas
Patrice Mayo is a bright student who is currently a junior in Valley High School’s International Baccalaureate magnet program. As an IB junior, she is in the rigorous IB Diploma program trying to earn her IB diploma. The International Baccalaureate program is a prestigious academic program with very high standards that is recognized around the world. This program is considered to be the most rigorous school program that can be offered to any high school student. As an IB student, it is necessary for Patrice to be a well-rounded student. Along with IB academic standards, Patrice Mayo must meet other requirements which includes hours of community service and physical activities. She has dedicated three years to the school’s varsity tennis team as a singles player and will do so for another year. Patrice volunteers in the S.P.A.R.K. program of the Recreation Center at Lorenzi Park where she works and interacts in social play with special-needs children. For two consecutive years now, Patrice has also led a group of her friends as the captain for a Relay for Life team trying to raise money to fight against cancer with the American Cancer Society. Her hard work in school, in sports, and in the community has shaped and molded Patrice into an intellectual, caring, hardworking, and sincere young woman, ready to take on the world. Patrice wishes to attend college and medical school to earn her Doctorate degree. As a doctor, Patrice will continue to dedicate and work hard for the community. Her experience in Argentina will help Patrice widen her horizons and influence her to become a better doctor in the future.

The Progress So Far
I'm have been luckily awarded $1,200 by AFS Scholarship Awards Program. This is the maximum amount AFS can award any student for the summer program and I'm truly honored to given this amount. On my own, I have fundraised for my summer trip to Argentina by selling cakes over the holiday season in 2008 and holding two garage sales. Along with the scholarship award, I was able to raise approximately $3000. I'm currently half way to my goal, which means I need an additional $3000 to finance my AFS trip. I will working on several different types of fundraisers including this blog. I have just finished working on support letter and will email it soon to family and friends. I will try to make the support letter to be available to this blog so that any of you guys can spread the world. Keep tuning in to this blog for future fundraisers.

First AFS Blog
My name is Patrice Mayo. I want to go aboard this summer to Argentina with AFS. This will be my first time going aboard and I'm really excited to go. It will be a great cultural and learning experience. I have always wanted to travel the world and experience the different cultures. Just like the hosts from the Travel Channel, I have the travel bug. However taking such a grand trip as to Argentina takes a lot of money. So please help with out by donating money to my cause. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
